Trip itinerary

Day 1

Today is the first day of your epic adventure and your Tru Welcome day! We kick things off in the gateway to the ancient city, world-famous for Angkor Wat. Nowadays, this laid back river town is known for its lively dining and bar scene which we’ll hit up this evening. You can take advantage of your free airport pick up, or you can meet us at our hostel where you’ll meet the rest of the family, along with your Travel Ninja. You’ll have the day to chill & get settled in or explore the city. In the evening, join forces with your group for your welcome speech and to hear what’s in store for you over the next nine days. Head out for a group meal near the legendary Pub Street, Cambodia’s answer to Thailand’s Khao San Road, famous for flashing neon lights, backpacker friendly bars and street food. If you fancy it, sink a drink or two and party the night away - the perfect icebreaker.

Day 2

Today we set off for a Tru Exclusive, an authentic Cambodian experience you can’t get anywhere else. Hop in a tuk tuk and drive through the bustling streets of Siem Riep to today’s cultural experience. Step into the shoes of a local Mango farmer and learn what it takes to be a farmer in rural Cambodia. You’ll even get to enjoy the fruits of your labour. All that farming has got us peckish! Join our local guide in his family home, roll your sleeves up and help prepare lunch for the group. We’ll head back to the city to spend some time chilling at the hostel, taking a dip in the pool and getting ready for a sunset BBQ this evening. You’ve got a big day ahead tomorrow, so best to have a chilled one tonight and get an early night. We’re not holding you to it though!

Day 3

Rise and shine people - prepare to be blown away. It’s time to tick a big one off your bucket list! It’s our last full day in Siem Reap, but arguably one of the highlights of your trip. One of the most TRUly amazing experiences you will have the chance to witness. Take in the sights of the Cambodian countryside, while navigating the winding roads in a tuk tuk on our way to the UNESCO Heritage site and world famous Angkor Wat just in time for sunrise. Words cannot describe the feeling of watching the sun rise over this ancient spiritual site. Get your Insta worthy shots of the temple’s reflection in the ponds with the red hues of the morning sky. The afternoon is yours to explore Siem Reap, or take a much needed nap before our last night out on Pub Street.

Day 4

Wave goodbye to Siem Reap, and head towards Cambodia’s capital city, Phnom Penh. After last night’s antics, you’ll probably need to use this time to catch a few z’s. Stop off in the countryside for a spot of lunch before heading to the famous Spider Market where you can get up and close with Tarantulas (if you’re brave enough), or if you’d prefer, you can just hide in the van - we won’t judge! Check into our Phnom Penh accommodation, freshen up and head out for an evening stroll and group dinner at a riverside restaurant. After dinner have a wander through the night market or skip that and head straight out to check out the bustling nightlife!

Day 5

An important part of travelling is taking the time to learn about a country’s culture and history. Today is a very humbling and eye-opening experience as we head to Cambodia’s S21 prison and Killing Fields to learn about the chilling and not too distant history. We will be taking a TukTuk tour to the historical sights, when we arrive we will spend some time looking around and learning about what happened here to shape modern day Cambodia and the people themselves.

Day 6

In the morning, we make our way to the riverside town of Kampot taking in the stunning mountain views and rivers before we stop off at Arcadia Waterpark. A chilled, fun afternoon on the freshwater river where you can relax with a beer, rent a kayak to explore, or have your fellow group members launch you sky high on the blob. A great spot with rope swings, pontoons and tubes.

Day 7

Today, we adventure around Kampot exploring all it has to offer. We’ll head out to a local pepper plantation where we’ll learn everything you need to know about farming the famous Kampot peppers. Some of the best peppers in the world are grown in Kampot! After all that learning, it’s time to use your newfound pepper knowledge to cook a traditional Khmer meal. In the evening, hop on some bikes and head down to the river for a dinner overlooking the river.

Day 8

Time for some much needed island time! We head to the stunning islands of Koh Rong Samloem today. After check in, spend the afternoon relaxing in hammocks over the ocean, climbin on the swings for that perfect Insta worthys hot, of chillon the beautiful white beaches watching the sunset over this little slice of paradise.

Day 9

Have a bit of a lie in before a day of sun, sea and sand - today is all about chilling out. Island hop along the emerald waters in a traditional Cambodian longtail boat. Now’s your chance to wind down, soak up the rays, top up your tan (don’t forget your factor 50) and try your hand at a traditional way of fishing. Show off your belly flopping skills, or find your inner Ariel/mermaid and snorkel over the vibrant coral, exploring the marine life around the islands before heading to a secluded beach for a BBQ lunch. Head back to the island and enjoy some free time to chillax or have a few cold beers and cut a few shapes.

Day 10

Ah. The final day. *Sniffle* No, you’re crying. Well, as they say, all good things must come to an end and, after an epic 10 days, it’s time to say your goodbyes to your TruFamily and check out of the hotel.

Global Work & Travel works on a first-in-best-dressed basis. Booking earlier ensures that you don’t miss out on the best intake, season, placements and more! Can I travel with a friend?

Yes you can! Simply tell your Trip Coordinator after booking that your friend is also going and they can link your profiles. For most of our trips we should be able to have you and your friends placed together or nearby. Meaning that you can live, work, play & travel together! But wait there's more! Not only can you travel the world with your besties at your side, you can also earn some extra cash towards your own trip just by referring your friends to Global Work & Travel. Can I bring my pet along?

At Global Work & Travel, we share a deep love for animals and fully understand the special bond you have with your pet. We recognise the challenges of embarking on a trip without them. Due to travel restrictions, requirements, and limited pet-friendly accommodations among our host organisations, we regretfully cannot facilitate their inclusion in the journey. However, many of our customers choose to entrust their pets to a family member or friend, embark on their adventure, and return home to wagging tails and furry cuddles.

What happens if I want to cancel my trip?

We know that life can get in the way of travel, so all our trips come with a great deal of flexibility. In most cases, if you cannot travel on your selected date, you can place your trip on hold to deal with whatever is holding you back, and continue in the future without incurring any penalty. You may also have the option of transferring to an entirely different trip and destination as well, or even transferring your trip to a friend or family member. In the event that you need to outright cancel your trip, if you give us 84* days notice you can do so with only a 50% cancellation fee. Your refund of the balance will come in the form of a Store Credit which you can put toward any other trip that we offer, including tours through third-party providers, as well as holidays through DealsAway.com, and is valid for 2 years from date of issue. As international travel can be complex, your options are based on the progress of your trip organisation and our support team can assist you in finding the best solution for your needs.
