Trip overview

Cambodia is a beautiful and affordable country located in Southeast Asia, known worldwide for its rich history and vibrant culture. In addition, it's an excellent starting point for exploring the rest of Southeast Asia, with easy access to neighboring countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. With its low cost of living and friendly locals, Cambodia is the perfect destination for travelers looking to immerse themselves in new experiences while sticking to a budget.

Our Teach in Cambodia trip combines two of Asia's most enthralling destinations into one. You'll get an internationally recognised certification in Thailand before being given the one-of-a-kind opportunity to teach your own students in Cambodia (for 2023 intakes. 2024 intakes will be fully in Cambodia). The latter, best renowned for the jungle-choked remains of Angkor Wat, offers visitors a terrific chance to soak up the sun on its stunning and bright beaches, rich natural wonders, delectable cuisine, and the fascinating capital city of Phnom Penh.

We have everything you need to begin your adventure as an English teacher abroad. The best part is that we've teamed up with renowned local organisations so we can help organise interviews with schools if you wish to teach after your course. You may use your newfound credentials in Cambodia, or you can take them with you practically anyplace else in the globe to begin earning money. Visa assistance, bank account setup, cultural events and excursions, local support, and much more are all provided by our team to assist you in getting started on your path to becoming an English teacher in Cambodia.

Join the locals in Thailand and Cambodia and learn about a brand-new culture, meet new people, and check off some fantastic sights on your travel bucket list. If you're at a crossroads in your life or have always wanted to see Asia and experience travelling and working at the same time, this journey is ideal for you.

Trip itinerary

Day 1

After landing at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport, a driver will take you to Hua Hin. You'll meet the other TESOL instructors and students and prepare to start your four weeks of training before your optional teaching position in Cambodia begins!

Orientation Week

During the first week, you’ll become acquainted with Thai culture and language via engaging activities and discussions. This Hua Hin-based course covers all aspects of Thai life, from the language to the rich cultural traditions that inform daily life. Numerous entertaining and educational cultural excursions are woven throughout the course, all of which are taught by local specialists. These include: Local market visit. Thai cooking classes. Volunteering at Rescue P.A.W.S dog shelter. A Muay Thai Lesson. Visit a local Buddhist temple to learn about religion and receive a blessing from a Thai monk. Beach BBQ.

Week 2-4

You will undergo an intensive 3 weeks of training to complete your TESOL before you head to Cambodia for your second orientation and optional teaching contract interviews.

Week 5

From Hua Hin, you'll travel to Cambodia, where upon arrival, you will participate in an intensive cultural and linguistic orientation in the nation's capital that will introduce you to Cambodian history, language, and customs via a variety of hands-on, interactive learning experiences. Lectures and workshops include: Cambodian Language. Cambodian history, Culture, Geography and Society. Working with Schools and Agents. Adjusting to Working in a Local School Workshop. Visa and Work Permit Presentation. Overcoming Culture Shock. Cambodian Cooking Class. A visit to the Killing Fields and Museum to learn about Cambodia's past. Market trip. A visit to Buddhist Temple to learn about Religion in Cambodia.

Ongoing

You're now in the thick of things as an English teacher in another country!  Opportunities are more likely to arise at language and private schools since most Cambodians send their children to such institutions due to the poor quality of public school education. The two have different teaching hours. Weekends are peak times for language schools, so instructors put in long hours on the weekends and enjoy some downtime during the week. Teachers in private and international schools often work Monday through Friday and have the weekend free.  The typical teaching week for a language school is between five and six days, with those working six eligible to receive a generous number of paid holidays. A majority of these openings are at elementary schools, although there are also openings at the secondary school level. The average number of hours spent teaching a classroom is between 22 and 30 per week, which works out to between 4.5 and 6 hours each day. Classroom sizes vary from 15 to 25 pupils, and the schools will supply you with an English teaching curriculum to follow throughout the course.  We'll constantly keep in touch with you throughout your stay. If at any point during your trip you need advice or support, our team will be on hand to answer all your questions. Don't forget you can jump on our social media pages too or buzz our 24/7 emergency support line for urgent matters.

But wait there's more! What happens if COVID affects my trip?

If you have to make any changes to your departure date, you’re protected with our Lifetime Deposit Guarantee and our Ultimate Corona Booking Flexibility. With this, we will change your trip dates for free. If this doesn’t fit around you and you can’t go on your trip anymore, we will give you a 100% refund in the form of a Trip Credit with us (See terms). If you’re unable to use it, you can also transfer that credit to someone else for them to put towards any trip too.

If you’re affected by Covid-19 while you’re overseas, you will have all the support you need from our team or partners in-country as well as have access to our 24/7 Global Emergency Line. We recommend travellers purchase Global Travel Cover travel insurance that provides Covid-19 medical protection too.

Do I need to be vaccinated to book?

As border restrictions for countries begin to ease, being fully vaccinated will maximise the number of locations you can visit. So while you are not legally required to be vaccinated, and it’s also not a requirement to travel with us, it will limit some of the countries that you can visit and may make it harder to travel through over the next 12-18 months. We highly recommend our travellers look at the current travel restrictions of their destination, speak with a medical professional or get in touch with our team for travel advice.

What happens if I want to cancel my trip?

Our Ultimate Corona Booking Flexibility means you can change your trip’s start date up to 84* days before departure without incurring any charges when you rebook it for any time (or even any other trip) in the next 2 years from your original start date.

In the event that you want to cancel your booking altogether, if you give us over 84* days notice you can do so with only a 50% cancellation fee. Your refund of the balance will come in the form of a Store Credit which you can put towards booking absolutely anything travel related with your Travel Concierge within the next 2 years!

*Some select trips excluded, including Teach (Spain, Italy & Czech Republic) and USA (Summer Camp, Working Holiday and Hotel Professional), and others as listed in Booking Conditions.
