Trip overview

Learning to train your palate to taste wine is one of the most rewarding experiences in the world. It changes the way you taste food, gives you the tools to enter the working world of wine, and means that you are unlikely ever to have another bad bottle of wine in your life! Imagine acquiring these skills, then imagine learning all about wine in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Buenos Aires!

You will join a group of international students in the cultural heart of Argentina to focus on developing a palate that can not only detect flavours, but pick out individual grapes, years and not just what country the wine is from, but which region within that country. Sound impossible? Well it is far from it and not only is this an incredible start to a career in the wine industry, trust us, it is an absolutely show-stopping party trick! This course is a chance to truly test yourself, to develop yourself and truly master one of the most complex and delightful artforms in the world.

Buenos Aires is effortlessly charming. As soon as you arrive in the city, you feel like you are home. The city is one of the safest in South America and by living and studying here, you will get to know its streets, its enticing culture and its incredibly friendly locals. Step onto the streets every morning to the ensnaring scent of pastries and coffee. Spend your evenings feasting upon the traditional Argentinian dishes, washed down with glasses of rich, robust Malbec and hit the milongas (tango clubs) and revel in the sight of true masters at work.

Immerse yourself in a new culture, make lifelong friends and, best of all, break away from your usual routine back home as you embark on an adventure to study the heart and soul of Argentina through the medium of dance. This is more than just visiting Argentina, this is living it.

Trip itinerary

Arrival

You will be collected from the airport and transferred to your accommodation for the week. If you choose to, arrive a few days early to acclimatise and explore Buenos Aires before your classes start in earnest.

Weekdays

Your classes do not officially start until the afternoon each day, however many people choose to participate in Spanish lessons in the mornings, even though they come at an additional cost. This creates a much more authentic experience and helps you feel more part of the city. Buenos Aires is a beautiful city to become a part of and learning a bit of the language helps you to integrate into its ebb and flow.  Four days a week, your intensive wine lessons take place between 3-8 pm. During this time you will participate in group lessons to teach the fundamentals of oenology, the history, the processes and the different styles and systems used in Argentina and around the world. Then, in the one-on-one sessions, we get to hone in on your particular skill set. Everyone has a different palate and olfactory system and everyone needs to develop their wine tasting skills in a different way. Your expert instructor will assess what you need to truly progress and become adept in the world of wine.  Then from 5-10 pm, our partners in Buenos Aires have arranged a whole series of cultural activities and city tours to get you to know the city much better and feel like you are becoming a true porteño (people of the port, the nickname for Buenos Aires residents). If your lessons and your cultural activities conflict, no problem, things can be rearranged to make sure you get the most out of this incredible cultural immersion.

Frequently asked questions

Can I travel now?

Yes! Almost all countries are now open and accepting tourists or work visa holders, with some requiring vaccination against Covid-19 and others not. But travel is very much back, and our team is fully staffed and ready to help navigate this exciting new adventure for you. We recommend our travellers book their trips at least 6-12 months in advance, so by the time you’re ready to depart we’re confident your destination (if it’s not already) will be open and ready to go.

What happens if COVID affects my trip?

If you have to make any changes to your departure date, you’re protected with our Lifetime Deposit Guarantee and our Ultimate Corona Booking Flexibility. With this, we will change your trip dates for free. If this doesn’t fit around you and you can’t go on your trip anymore, we will give you a 100% refund in the form of a Trip Credit with us (See terms). If you’re unable to use it, you can also transfer that credit to someone else for them to put towards any trip too.

If you’re affected by Covid-19 while you’re overseas, you will have all the support you need from our team or partners in-country as well as have access to our 24/7 Global Emergency Line. We recommend travellers purchase Global Travel Cover travel insurance that provides Covid-19 medical protection too.

Do I need to be vaccinated to book?

As border restrictions for countries begin to ease, being fully vaccinated will maximise the number of locations you can visit. So while you are not legally required to be vaccinated, and it’s also not a requirement to travel with us, it will limit some of the countries that you can visit and may make it harder to travel through over the next 12-18 months. We highly recommend our travellers look at the current travel restrictions of their destination, speak with a medical professional or get in touch with our team for travel advice.

Why should I book now?

Covid-19 threw us a curve ball and pretty much halted all travel. This means that we have a backlog of travellers, just like you, who are desperate to get out and explore the world! Global Work & Travel works on a first-in-best-dressed basis. Booking earlier ensures that you don’t miss out on the best intake, season, placements and more! We recommend our travellers take 6-12 months to plan their trip for a reason - to make sure you’ve got everything organised perfectly, stress-free. Why not give yourself something to look forward to, by booking that trip!

Can I travel with a friend?

Yes you can! Simply tell your Trip Coordinator after booking that your friend is also going and they can link your profiles. For most of our trips we should be able to have you and your friends placed together or nearby. Meaning that you can live, work, play & travel together!

But wait there's more! Not only can you travel the world with your besties at your side, you can also earn some extra cash towards your own trip just by referring your friends to Global Work & Travel. You can learn more about the great referral rewards program inside your gWorld account once you join.

What happens if I want to cancel my trip?

Our Ultimate Corona Booking Flexibility means you can change your trip’s start date up to 56* days before departure without incurring any charges when you rebook it for any time (or even any other trip) in the next 2 years from your original start date.

In the event that you want to cancel your booking altogether, if you give us over 56* days notice you can do so with only a 50% cancellation fee. Your refund of the balance will come in the form of a Store Credit which you can put towards booking absolutely anything travel related with your Travel Concierge within the next 2 years!

*Some select trips excluded, including Teach (Spain, Italy & Czech Republic) and USA (Summer Camp, Working Holiday and Hotel Professional), and others as listed in Booking Conditions.
