Trip overview

Japan is a cultural powerhouse. From the dynasties of the 3rd century CE to modern life resembling a sci-fi movie – this is an island of the unexpected.

To experience the whole of Japan – one needs a lifetime. Or you can get your TESOL certification in Japan and become an English teacher in the Land Of The Rising Sun – and explore your new home to your heart’s content.

The ancient shrines and temples tell the tantalising tale of Japan’s history – with the oldest ruins being 12000 – 15000 years old. These sites are dotted around in cities and rural areas – waiting to be discovered on your days off.

In the modern world – Japan birthed manga/anime, high-speed bullet trains, and a fashion scene found nowhere else on Earth. Wrapped up in a blend of traditional and modern architecture on the forefront of innovation and technology.

A life in Japan is one surrounded by the latest advancements in electronics, automation, and robotics as well as the bright minds leading the charge.

Let’s not forget the interesting culture, delicious cuisine, incredible natural landscapes (with ski slopes galore), friendly and polite people….

This isn’t just a trip to Japan. It’s an opportunity for you to get a professional certification that gives you a meaningful occupation. With a local income that will help you fund your travels and live comfortably.

You’ll enjoy plenty of job security because there are loads of people out there who can’t speak English but want, and need, to learn it.

But – there are also loads of English speakers chasing the dream of living abroad while teaching English. Since 97% of people pass their TESOL – competition for these positions can be fierce.

Which is why we keep our intake groups small. That way we can give you the attention you need to become a paid English teacher in Japan as quickly and easily as possible.

And here’s the best part: Over 95% of Global Travellers are placed in teaching positions within a fortnight of passing their TESOL. We help you land interviews at language institutes across Japan before you finish your course or soon thereafter.

And if you decide to go further afield, your TESOL qualification is globally recognised - especially one completed in-country.

We offer the complete package for teaching overseas. Our team will help you with the essentials you need to start your new journey with a bang! Including helping you find accommodation, visa assistance, a range of exciting cultural activities, and so much more.

You could do this by yourself and leave a lot to chance. It will take much longer and you’ll be competing with every other traveller trying to live the life of an English teacher.

Or you could let us take care of the essentials so you can focus on living your best life.

If you want to gain international work & travel experience with a lifetime of employment options – a TESOL qualification is the way to go.

If you want to live in one of the most advanced countries in the world – Japan is the place to be.

If you want to live in Japan while you’re getting your TESOL, with the option to stay on at a paid teaching position, book today.

Trip details

Our Teach English trips are designed to get you set up in your new life overseas as smoothly as possible. Our goal is to save you time, money, and stress while eliminating the risk of returning home early. Here’s how we do it:

We’re on your side from the moment you get started.

You’ll be assigned a Dedicated Trip Coordinator. They’ll guide you through the next steps and answer all your questions. They’ll also help you with pesky visas. No guesswork – only the right paperwork in your hands before you leave.

Your Personal Travel Concierge will help with flights, insurance, and any add-ons you’d like for your trip. These are real humans too – no robots here.

Japan has a unique culture that’s different from what most foreigners are used to. We want this transition to be as smooth as possible for you.

Which is why you’re required to take a 40-hour, online Japanese culture course before you arrive in Japan. This course is designed to help you adapt to Japanese life easily. There are a number of modules to make sure you know everything you need to know before you arrive. There are lectures, quizzes, and interactions with other travellers planning to teach English in Japan.

Once you land in Japan, you’ll be picked up by a driver and transfered to your accommodation in Nagoya.

Speaking of accommodation, you’ll be staying in shared accommodation in the immediate area of your training centre. There are no more than 3 people per room and you can upgrade to a private room at an extra cost (depending on availability).

Your accommodation will have the basics like a bed and wifi, while other amenities – like a laundromat – will be a short distance away.

Your TESOL training is completed in Nagoya, Japan – the fourth largest city in Japan with all the amenities you may need. You’ll receive one-on-one feedback sessions and a certificate of completion once you graduate. Our team will help you with job placement while you’re finishing up your course

If your teaching position doesn’t provide accommodation, our local team will work with you until you have a comfortable home you’re happy with – complete with the modern technology that’s standard with Japanese living.

Rent is around USD 500 – USD 800 a month, excluding water and electricity. Accommodation is often single occupancy in a studio apartment. You might find a private room in a larger shared house with shared utilities. You’ll be asked to pay a 1 – 2 month deposit at the time of moving in.

To help you get a feel for your new home, this trip includes the following activities (weather dependent): a Japanese cooking class to impress your friends back home, walking tour of Nagoya, a visit to an ancient Japanese castle and a trip to Tokugawa Art Museum.

Our support doesn’t end there. We’ll be in touch during your trip to make sure everything is going smoothly. If you have any questions or concerns we’re one quick message, DM, email, or carrier pigeon away.

And if there’s an emergency, you can use our 24/7 emergency support lines for anything urgent.

Our team is well travelled so you can rely on our experience.

We’re with you every step of the way.

To qualify for this trip you must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any field. You must meet the visa requirements. You must bring a laptop to help with your classroom duties.

Extra Costs

Flights, travel insurance, criminal background check, visa costs, souvenirs, meals, accommodation after the course and spending money.

Weeks 2-4

You’ll receive one-on-one feedback sessions throughout your training so you know you’re on the right track.  During this time the team will begin preparing to land you a job. They’ll help you with your resume, prepare you for interviews, and actively search for teaching positions you could be a good fit for. 95% of our travellers that are wanting a teaching position after the course secure one either during their course or within a fortnight after the course finishes.

You graduate your TESOL (provided you pass). Most people have been placed in a teaching position at this point, so you’ll travel to your new location and start living the English teacher dream.  Most schools have an orientation period of 1 – 2 weeks. This differs from school to school but in most cases you receive your full pay during this orientation period.  For the few that haven’t landed a job yet, our the team will continue setting up interviews for you.  We’ll be in touch with you throughout your stay. Why not give yourself something to look forward to by booking that trip!

Can I travel with a friend?

But wait there's more! What happens if COVID affects my trip?

If you have to make any changes to your departure date, you’re protected with our Lifetime Deposit Guarantee and our Ultimate Corona Booking Flexibility. With this, we will change your trip dates for free. If this doesn’t fit around you and you can’t go on your trip anymore, we will give you a 100% refund in the form of a Trip Credit with us (See terms). If you’re unable to use it, you can also transfer that credit to someone else for them to put towards any trip too.

If you’re affected by Covid-19 while you’re overseas, you will have all the support you need from our team or partners in-country as well as have access to our 24/7 Global Emergency Line. We recommend travellers purchase Global Travel Cover travel insurance that provides Covid-19 medical protection too.

Do I need to be vaccinated to book?

As border restrictions for countries begin to ease, being fully vaccinated will maximise the number of locations you can visit. So while you are not legally required to be vaccinated, and it’s also not a requirement to travel with us, it will limit some of the countries that you can visit and may make it harder to travel through over the next 12-18 months. We highly recommend our travellers look at the current travel restrictions of their destination, speak with a medical professional or get in touch with our team for travel advice.

What happens if I want to cancel my trip?

Our Ultimate Corona Booking Flexibility means you can change your trip’s start date up to 84* days before departure without incurring any charges when you rebook it for any time (or even any other trip) in the next 2 years from your original start date.

In the event that you want to cancel your booking altogether, if you give us over 84* days notice you can do so with only a 50% cancellation fee. Your refund of the balance will come in the form of a Store Credit which you can put towards booking absolutely anything travel related with your Travel Concierge within the next 2 years!

*Some select trips excluded, including Teach (Spain, Italy & Czech Republic) and USA (Summer Camp, Working Holiday and Hotel Professional), and others as listed in Booking Conditions.
