On this trip, you'll have the option to assist with either teaching or football coaching, contributing to valuable projects in the heart of Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Accra is situated in the south of Ghana in the coastal plains along the Gulf of Guinea – which means a beautiful beach is accessible directly from the city!
Although you won’t run out of things to do and see in Accra itself; the museums and historical sites like the Osu Castle or the National Museum, trendy neighbourhoods like Osu, vibrant markets and stunning city beaches like Labadi Beach…the list goes on.
Depending on which project you choose (teaching or coaching) – your volunteer duties will either be in the morning or the afternoon. Which gives you plenty of free time to explore Accra.
During your volunteering duties you’ll interact with Ghanaian people of all ages, giving you an intimate snapshot into the life and culture of this gorgeous country. You’re pretty much guaranteed to walk away with a whole new crowd of Ghanaian friends!

Purpose & impact
The main purpose of your trip is to contribute positively to the lives of school children in Ghana.
Volunteers from different backgrounds bring unique perspectives and skills to students, enriching their understanding of the world.
Besides, the positive and supportive energy volunteers bring to these projects is invaluable! You can choose the project that best aligns with your skills and interests, whether it's assisting at a school or on the football field!
If you choose the teaching project, your main impact may include:
- Providing individualised attention to students
- Assisting with extracurricular activities
- Promoting a collaborative educational environment to support teachers in shaping students' futures
- Helping to overcome resource limitations by providing additional support and expertise to local teachers
- Assisting at a school for students with learning impairments
Your volunteer duties will be Monday – Friday from roughly 8am – 2pm.
If you choose the football coaching project, your main impact may include:
- Helping develop players' skills and cultivating a positive, inclusive team culture as a coach, referee, or mentor
- Promoting teamwork to create a sense of belonging
- Serving as a positive role model for students
- Going beyond the field by offering guidance on life skills, discipline, and goal setting
Your volunteer duties will be Monday – Friday from roughly 3pm onwards. Football games are mostly on the weekends.

Accommodation & meals
When you arrive at Kotoka Airport in Accra, our partner will be waiting to take you straight to your included accommodation.
You’ll be staying in a comfortable, 6 bedroom volunteer house about 20 minutes outside of the Accra city centre. The rooms sleep between 4-6 volunteers each.
The house includes a fully-equipped kitchen, free WiFi, air conditioning, laundry facilities, a big living room with a TV, an outdoor 'chill zone', ping pong table, board games & more!
The house is located in a sprawling compound with 24/7 security and security cameras to keep you extra safe – although crime in Ghana is relatively low.
As well as volunteers, there are also some project staff living with you at the volunteer house. This includes a chef, a housekeeper, and a security guard.
With your accommodation sorted, what will you do about food?
Breakfast and dinner will be provided everyday. You can expect predominantly Ghanaian meals, although specific preferences will be catered for. You’ll discuss this with the project partner once you’ve arrived.
Trip itinerary
Before you leave
Your volunteer placement – including accommodation and 2 meals a day – is confirmed and organised before you leave home.
You can arrive at any time, although there are closures during school holidays. But don’t worry, your Dedicated Trip Coordinator will make sure you time everything perfectly.
Arrival
When you arrive at Kotoka International Airport, a member of our partner team will be waiting for you. You’ll be taken straight to your shared accommodation at a volunteer house in Accra.
Take some time to relax and settle in, get to know your new friends, or explore the area.
Day 1
Your first day after arrival is all about orientation. You’ll learn all about the project, what’s expected of you, and how to navigate life in Ghana. Your orientation shouldn’t take longer than 2 hours. Next up is a walking tour around Accra.
Day 2+
Now it’s time to jump into your volunteering duties. It’s important to remember that the projects adapt to the needs of the students and participants, so things may change. But here’s a rough idea of how each day will go.
Teaching project:
7 am: The children start showing up for classes.
8 am: Singing circle starts which signals the beginning of the day.
From here, your daily schedule will change depending on what’s needed. Your schedule is drawn up as a team between your colleagues and the students.
2:30 pm: School’s over and the kids start going home. You’re welcome to wait for the last children to leave which can be much later in the afternoon. Or you can knock off and take the afternoon to explore the area.
Football coaching project:
3 pm: Since this portion of the project happens outside of school hours, this project only starts at 3pm. You can take the morning to explore the area, or you could contribute to the teaching project to keep you busy in the mornings.
Ongoing
Your evenings and weekends are free, giving you plenty of time to explore everything Accra has to offer.
The beach is a 20 minute walk away. You’ll be staying in a neighbourhood surrounded by malls and shops, and Ghana’s favourite party scene in Osu is a 25 minute drive away.
Once your placement is over, you can choose to stay on in Ghana to explore what else it and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Can I bring my pet along?
At Global Work & Travel, we share a deep love for animals and fully understand the special bond you have with your pet. We recognise the challenges of embarking on a trip without them. Due to travel restrictions, requirements, and limited pet-friendly accommodations among our host organisations, we regretfully cannot facilitate their inclusion in the journey. However, many of our customers choose to entrust their pets to a family member or friend, embark on their adventure, and return home to wagging tails and furry cuddles.
What happens if I need to cancel my trip?
We know that life can get in the way of travel, so all our trips come with a great deal of flexibility. In most cases, if you cannot travel on your selected date, you can place your trip on hold to deal with whatever is holding you back, and continue in the future without incurring any penalty. You may also have the option of transferring to an entirely different trip and destination as well, or even transferring your trip to a friend or family member. In the event that you need to outright cancel your trip, if you give us 84* days notice you can do so with only a 50% cancellation fee. Your refund of the balance will come in the form of a Store Credit which you can put toward any other trip that we offer, including tours through third-party providers, as well as holidays through DealsAway.com, and is valid for 2 years from date of issue. As international travel can be complex, your options are based on the progress of your trip organisation and our support team can assist you in finding the best solution for your needs.
